Letters to Sir George Henschel, ca. 1890-1900.

Letters to Henschel concern social gatherings, travel, and mutual acquaintances. In one letter, Sargent gives his appraisal of an unnamed artist. Two letters pertain to a design for a window, a project that Sargent is forced to abandon. In another letter, Sargent advises Henschel what to see in Rome. Five letters on Sargent's Tite St. stationery, one letter sent from Boston. With typed transcripts.

Sir George Henschel was a German-English composer, conductor, and baritone. He was the first conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, in addition to many appointments in England. His diverse compositions and arrangements showed influences of Brahms and Wagner. He was also professor of singing at the Royal College of Music.
